It sounds like you're worried about heat, as are a lot of people because of some negative press on the issue (and people pay attention to the negative more than the positive). If you're happy with your current MacBook air, then rest assured that the base model 2020 will make you happier than you currently are. As a couple people have pointed out, there is a third-party app that will turn off turbo boost and give you a toggle switch to turn it back on (there's a pro version of the same app that lets you turn it on and off based on which applications are being used, too).Īs I pointed out in a response above, if you leave turbo boost off all the time, you still have 4 cores vs 2 cores with the i3. i5 future proofs a tiny bit 16GB ram future proofs more (in my opinion). I would still go for the i5 only because you can't upgrade it later.
